Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra

Delfeayo Marsalis formed the Uptown Jazz Orchestra in 2007 to preserve important jazz traditions, including riff-playing, spontaneous group improvisation, and collective New Orleans instrumental polyphony. The orchestra presents traditional, classic, and modern compositions to address the lack of young homegrown talent outside the brass band tradition in New Orleans. It has grown into one of the premier large ensembles in the world, releasing four critically acclaimed albums and touring nationally and internationally while planning to engage younger generations with the legacy of American music.
